1. Create a Water Moat
One effective method is to create a water moat. Put your pet’s food dish inside a larger shallow pan. Fill the outer pan with water, ensuring that the water level is high enough to create a barrier but not so high that it spills into the food dish. This creates a moat that ants are unable to cross, keeping the food safe and free from ants.
2. Use petroleum jelly
If the water moat is not suitable reason of cat avoiding the moat, you can go through other method like using petroleum jelly: take a little amount of petroleum jelly of any brand and stick with the outer surface of pet’s bowl. Ants avoid sticky surfaces, so the petroleum jelly will stop them from getting to the food.
3. Put the plate on a terry cloth.
Another effective solution is to utilize terry cloth, as ants dislike its texture: Cut a piece of terry cloth fabric that extends a few inches beyond the edges of your pet’s food dish. Position the dish in the center of the cloth. The loopy texture of the terry cloth is unpleasant for ants to walk on, which helps keep them away from the food.
